The Beauty of a Vintage Neon Sign
There is a reason old neon stops people on the sidewalk. Rust along a seam, patina on the metal, a slightly uneven glow. Those read as proof that something has been around a while. Aged neon points back to a time when a sign was built to last and meant to be looked at. Recreating that on purpose takes knowing what decades of weather actually do to metal, glass, and paint, then putting it back by hand with control over where the character lands.
A Specialized Collaboration

Neon Flamingo has been collaborating with Alicja Polachek, a sign painter and glass gilder, specifically to age new signs with real texture and grit. Her hand-lettering and traditional sign-painting background brings an eye for how paint should wear, chip, and fade. That is the difference between a sign that looks distressed and one that looks old.
Why Aging a Sign Right Takes Real Time
Aging is not a quick finishing step. It involves real metalwork: cutting, shaping and finishing components by hand, down to hole placement and edge treatment that a mass-produced sign would skip. That is slow and expensive to do properly. The payoff is a sign that holds up for decades while looking like it already has.

Built for Collectors, Designers, and Anyone Who Wants the Real Thing
Custom aged neon is a strong fit for restaurants and bars going for a genuine vintage feel, interior designers sourcing statement pieces with real character, film and TV productions needing period-accurate signage, and collectors who want something with soul rather than a flawless off-the-shelf sign. Every piece is built from scratch and aged for the space it is going into. No two age the same way.
Why This Work Matters

Custom aged neon pulls on both sides of the shop: precise commercial fabrication and real artistry. "Vintage" does not have to mean secondhand or neglected. It can be built by hand to carry character from day one.
